Building Possible Futures

Moving Pictures - RSA

The RSA brief asks to create an animation that inspired imagination after listening to the words of the speaker Debra Kidd. She talks about building futures for children so that they can dream and imagine for themselves. The animation is situated in a classroom where we see the teacher encouraging students to use their imagination. This leads to one girl being taken off into her own world of imagination and building a potential future. The teacher “the imaginer” travels along side the girl as she helps her discover this world. Objects such as balloons, airplanes and clouds are used as a signifier of imagination. Bridges are used to show change and transition. The animation progresses from real to imaginary. The girl’s world gets more colourful and animated. Bright colours are used in the animation to emphasize the colourful imaginations of children. The tone is friendly, optimistic and encouraging.
